Surfing
Surfing is a regular sport on Playa Guiones - our beach. Typically the surfers are out extremely early in the morning, catching the best waves. They then retire for a food break and a long siesta until the evening surf comes up. You can rent surf boards and "boogy boards" at several locations. View Video

Ostional Nesting Of Sea Turtles
Although nesting sea turtles are frequently seen on Playa Guiones, to see large numbers travel to Ostional
a four-wheel drive vehicle is recommended, especially in the wet season when the bulk of the nesting occurs.
Several times a year, (mostly at night) female turtles come ashore in such numbers that the black sand beach resembles a stretch of rocky coastline. These mass nesting episodes (lasting from 2 to 8 days) are locally referred to as "arrivadas," or arrivals. The arrivadas usually begin several nights after full moon.
During the peak nesting season from July through November, however, more than 100,000 nests may be made during a single arrivada & any correlation with moon phases or tides is lost.

Running / Jogging
For the joggers, enjoy an early morning run in the sand along 6km of beach. When the tide is out, there is a broad band of hard sand that is excellent for running. If you want to truly challenge the calf muscles, you can also run for a while in the soft dry sand further up the beach. According to the experts, this is excellent training. Drink lots of water and enjoy the serenity of dawn. The sun rises around 6:00 am so you will be encouraged to rise early. . At that time of the day, there will probably be only you a few surfers out riding the curls. If you get too hot, you can always run in the shallows for a while to cool down. You can also visit the blow holes at Olga's Beach to get a refreshing blast of salt water.
